August, 2010
Dear Prayer Supporter,
Hezekiah was one of the shining lights of the kings who reigned in Judah. He was a godly King who aimed to please God during his reign, by turning Judah back in worship to Almighty God. This day, however, he was ill and was told by Isaiah the prophet that he was going to die. How would you respond?
Hezekiah's prayer was obviously a prayer of desperation but also a prayer of faith. Hezekiah prayed knowing that God honours integrity and truth, which is how he lived as king. It is important not just to believe that God is, but also to live a life that reflects the God in whom we believe and pray to. Hezekiah did just that and received the answer to his prayer.
Be encouraged today to know that God does honour those who are honest and have integrity in their heart in all that they do. Why? Because this is a mirror reflection of God Himself.
"Remember now, O Lord, I beseech Thee, how I have walked before Thee in truth and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in Thy sight. And Hezekiah wept bitterly."
2 Kin 20:3 (NASB)
Blessings

Please join with the staff of Bible Society as together
we pray for the following projects and opportunities
during the month of August.
SPECIAL NEED FOR PRAYER
Haiti—In an interview to mark the passing of six months from the quake on January 12, the former US president Bill Clinton, said international donors had given only 10 per cent of the aid they promised. He also noted the "enormous difficulty" plaguing rubble removal and construction of housing. Only 28,000 Haitians displaced by the earthquake have moved into new homes and the Port-au-Prince area remains a tableau of life in the ruins. Please pray for a speedy release of the aid, and that it is used appropriately where needed.
WEEK ONE
Jesus Racing: High School Presentations
Bible Society is partnering with Jesus Racing's Andrew Fisher, who is speaking in High Schools throughout New South Wales. He gives a fast paced, challenging presentation to students, speaking about courage. His talks are inspiring and hit the mark with students who often leave challenged. Taking a replica of the Jesus Racing car enables him to have a captive audience. Please pray for continued effectiveness in reaching these students for Christ.
Austrian Bible Society
The Austrian Bible Society faces many challenges in a difficult environment. By and large Christianity (throughout Europe) has become formalised and ineffective. This unfortunately is reflected in the Austrian Church's attitude to the Bible Society. As they continue to reach out to the many refugees who come to Austria, the Church has pulled its support, saying that the Bible Society should be for Austrians only. Please pray that the Bible Society stance will continue to bear fruit and that support for its work continues to flow in from other areas.
WEEK TWO
Jesus. All About Life: City2Surf
Jesus. All About Life aims to raise awareness of the name of Jesus. This year's team in City2Surf is hoping to have 2000 runners wearing T-shirts with the name of Jesus emblazoned across them. It is also a fundraising event where the monies raised will go to Scripture teachers and Chaplains in public schools to support the giving of Bibles in their volunteer work. Please pray for great success in this event.
South African Missions Trip
Bible Society is planning to take a team of 12 people to South Africa in January 2011, for 12 days of ministry. The team will partner with World Hope Ministries, presenting the Gospel in impoverished schools, local churches and nearby prisons. They will also distribute many Bibles donated by Australians as part of the "Get the Word Out" campaign. Please pray for the success of this trip.
WEEK THREE
Big Rescue Bible in public schools
With the overwhelming response of over 70,000 Bibles needed for SRE teachers and Scripture classes, this month sees the logistical exercise of getting these Bibles to the respective schools. The aim is to set up Regional Centres throughout New South Wales whereby teachers and chaplains can travel to obtain their respective quotas. Please pray that every Bible requested will get to its proper destination without loss or damage.
Rwanda
Kavitesi Jeanne lost her parents and siblings during the 1994 genocide. As sole survivor she was raised by her uncle but over the years grew up with bitterness, hatred, anger and emptiness as a result. Her relatives, who loved her, could not give her the comfort and support that she wanted. However, after going through the reconciliation training she was touched by the testimonies of others who had repented and asked God for forgiveness. As a result Kavitesi has done the same thing and said "I am now a new person." Please continue to pray for this wonderful ministry of forgiveness and freedom in Christ.
WEEK FOUR
Ethiopia
Kurt Michler, Project Director comments: "One way to report our progress is with numbers: training conferences conducted, books distributed...But for me, the project impact is better measured by the smiles on the faces of pastors, evangelists and Bible teachers when they receive their book sets." Please pray for the ongoing success of this project, as it looks to the future of how to teach and distribute these much needed Pastors Book-set resources.
Get the Word Out
Youth and children are helping to get the Word of God to children in China and South Africa. Through schools and Sunday schools throughout NSW, children help to sponsor a Bible for a needy child. These children will receive a Children's Bible in their own language with a personalised Gift Certificate inside. A sponsored Bible means they can learn more about Jesus and His love for them. Please pray that children in Australia will support this campaign to enable the children of China & South Africa to receive their own much needed Bibles.
