June, 2011
Dear Prayer Supporter,

We serve a wonderful God! When coming to God in prayer, it’s really helpful to pause and reflect on His greatness. The great South African evangelist Andrew Murray said, "Each time, before you intercede, be quiet first and worship God in His glory. Think of what He can do, and how He delights to hear the prayers of His redeemed people. Think of your place and privilege in Christ, and expect great things!"

The Psalmist encourages us in Psalm 100 to, “Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. 2 Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. 3 Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.”

As we come before God in prayer this month, let us do so with worshipful hearts, mindful of his character of love, faithfulness, holiness and power.

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”
(Psalm 100:4-5)

Please join with the staff of Bible Society as together
we pray for the following projects and opportunities
during the month of June.

WEEK ONE

Bible Society Australia: Brisbane Nationalisation Celebration
Thank you for your prayers for the nationalisation of Bible Society. As you know, in October 2010 the state based Bible Societies of Australia voted to become one national organisation. Our new CEO Greg Clarke says, “When six organisations put aside their independence, their assets and their own boards for the sake of the greater good, it is cause for huge celebration. That is precisely why June 24 will see Bible Society staff and supporters from around Australia gather in Brisbane at the Convention Centre on Southbank River for a night of prayer and praise.”

Please pray for this Celebration of the Bible Society, that God will bless the time of rejoicing, prayer and praise. Pray that God brings a real spirit of unity amongst staff and supporters of Bible Society ‐ Australia wide ‐ so that as we move forward as a national body, the work of Bible translation, publication, distribution and engagement with God’s Word will continue with a greater capacity, for His glory.

WEEK TWO

Overseas project: Bibles in Prisons, South Africa
Bible Society has a five year history of providing Bibles to South African prisoners undertaking a Discipleship program. Prison in‐mate Ayoob Toffie wrote to Bible Society recently sharing, “The reason for my letter is to say thank you for seeds that you and your team have sown into my life. Whatever you are sowing in the Kingdom of God might leave your hand but it will never leave your life. The Bibles that you gave are a tool of firm foundation... producing results that will impact our nation for the glory of God.”

Please pray: for Ayoob Toffie and the 30,000 inmates who have received Bibles over the past five years, that as they continue to grow in their faith in Christ Jesus and their knowledge and understanding of the Bible, that people across South Africa will be impacted by the change in these prisoners’ lives.

WEEK THREE

Australian Project: The new Flying Bibleman
The Flying Bibleman ministry is an itinerant ministry which takes the Word of God to remote places in central and western Australia. The core of the ministry is to make the Bible available to people in a language they understand, a format they can use and at a price they can afford. As of May 2011, the new Flying Bibleman, David Curtis, will continue to make flights across the 'Top End' from Broome in the west, throughout all of the Northern Territory, the northern communities of South Australia, Far North Queensland and the Torres Strait. That is an area of over 3 million square kilometres or 40% of Australia's land mass. There are literally hundreds of small communities dotted throughout that area; many are difficult to reach by road (or even unreachable in the wet season).

Pray for David as he builds relationships through meeting with many community members for the first time. Pray for opportunities as he is called upon to preach, teach the Bible, teach Religious Instruction in schools, counsel people, show Christian films or just sit and encourage people to live for Jesus. Pray that David will always be ready to "to give an account for the hope that is within us." (1 Peter 3:15b)

WEEK FOUR

Overseas project: REAP literacy, India
In the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, REAP literacy teachers working in slums and villages are seeing children’s lives being transformed by the power of the Gospel. Samuel Raju is an orphan who doesn’t know who his parents were. He is now 11 years old and learning to read and write in English through the Bible literacy program. Samuel believes that through Jesus he can attain every goal in life and also has the feeling that Jesus is the “father and mother” to comfort him. Samuel enjoys singing Christian songs and wants to become a missionary one day.

Please pray: for the 6,000 children in 140 Bible literacy centres, that as they learn to read and write using Scripture, they will grow to understand salvation through Jesus, and that through this, their families will come to know Christ.
