China Bible Distribution

As the number of Chinese believers explodes, so too does the need for the Scriptures. This vibrant church desperately needs access to God’s Word so it can establish deep roots with which to stand firm and flourish.

Many poorer believers in China’s rural areas simply cannot afford even the cheapest Bible. So scarce is God’s precious Word that any one Bible distributed may eventually be used by hundreds of people. Some churches don’t even have one Bible for their entire congregation.

Bible Society NSW and a team travelled to China in late 2008 with a team of Australians to distribute Bibles to needy rural churches in four provinces. All the Bibles had been printed by the Amity Printing Company.

The need
Greater freedom means the Chinese church is exploding. Official estimates state there are 22 million Christians in China, although there are suggestions that the actual number could exceed 100 million.

Bibles are frustratingly out of reach for many believers. There are simply not enough to go around! The fact that many people – especially in rural areas – do not have the means to purchase a Bible for themselves is also a significant barrier.

Yet the door is wide open for Scripture distribution throughout China.

Since 1987, Bible Society has printed and distributed over 50 million Bibles with the approval of the Chinese Government through the Amity Printing Company.

Amity’s new printing facility is capable of producing 12 million Bibles per year. 80% of these are distributed within China itself, with a fleet of vans taking them out to churches in more remote areas.

Making a difference
You can help reach many more in China by providing funds for the paper that Amity uses to print Bibles. Supplying subsidised paper reduces production costs by half and allows Bibles to be sold at a lower price.

Changed lives
Bible Society supporter Helen Manning was overwhelmed by the desperate hunger for the Scriptures she witnessed when she travelled to China in 2009 with a Bible distribution team.

“There were so many enthusiastic hugs and handshakes and teary eyes as we actually handed the Bibles to the people. I was especially moved by the reaction of our guide, Mr Sun. I will never forget his joy at receiving his own Bible, and his heartfelt words: ‘This is the best present I have ever received! This book will change my life…’ His excitement was electric!”
