Australian Defence Force Bibles
Since the time of Governor Macquarie, Bible Society has been providing the comfort, strength and hope of the Scriptures to servicemen and women in our armed forces. And today, Bible Society provides a camouflage, rugged, Bible to the men and women in uniform serving in the front line in places around the world, those preparing for deployment and troops remaining in Australia. The Bibles are sent to military chaplains who distribute them to the troops under their care.
If you’re a chaplain in the ADF and would like to receive copies, please email us.

Chaplains speak about the impact of the ADF Bibles
“I went to deliver a Bible to a serviceman, but found he wasn’t in. Another serviceman offered to pass it on, though he dismissed the Bible as “a lot of rubbish.” Passing by two hours later, I found him reading the Scriptures. He later asked me if he also could have a Bible. God works in mysterious ways to lead people to Himself.” Edward Brooker, Chaplain
“Two boxes of the Bibles were snaffled up within a couple of weeks of
HMAS Toowoomba’s deployment to the Middle East Area of Operations. Two
personnel have undertaken to read their Bibles from cover to cover, and three others have indicated that they wish to be baptised and known as Christians.” - Steve Gunther, Chaplain RAN, HMAS Toowoomba
“Each week over fifty new recruits ask for and are then given the free ADF Bibles. Many times I have visited the recruits' accommodation and seen these little Bibles open and being read and discussed. Recently a recruit told me that he had begun to read his camouflage Bible, had encountered Jesus in it, and was now a follower of Jesus! The Word of God is indeed sharper than any double edged sword and it means much that this sword is alive and active among these men and women who need it so much.' - Andrew Grills, Chaplain - Army Recruit Training Centre, Kapooka
A serviceman’s testimony
“I have taken that Good News with me on many exercises, as well as on my deployment to Somalia, East Timor and the Solomon Islands. It became the first thing that I would place in my pack. It’s not a talisman I hold on to, keeping me safe from harm. This Word of God has brought me much comfort in times of extreme stress; even just to look at the cover and be reminded that I am not alone, thousands of kilometres from home.”
