The need
Over 50,000 Australians speak an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander language at home and in their community. They find English difficult, especially when it comes to understanding and expressing the truths of the Bible.
Yet even though 26 indigenous languages have Scripture translations, many people remain cut off from God’s Word because they can’t read their own language. To reach indigenous non-readers, these translated Scriptures need to be made available in audio format.
Making a difference
You can give indigenous Australians the opportunity to hear God’s Word in their heart language. Bible Society and several key partners are working together to record and edit indigenous language Scriptures. We are committed to seeing at least a Gospel recorded in every language that has a translation.
With your help we will then make these audio Scriptures available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and those who minister to them.
Reproducing these recordings in various formats will ensure we reach an even wider audience. Global Recordings Network, for example, plans to place the recorded Scriptures on its website for free download in MP3 format.
