The need
Having worked with our counterpart Bible Societies in the Pacific, we’ve come to identify areas for further growth and development.
The Bible Society of the South Pacific (BSSP) is based in Fiji and serves 16 countries including Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu. Meeting the Scripture needs of so many diverse island nations is challenging, particularly during these uncertain times.
There are over 30 translation projects currently underway in the South Pacific, and BSSP is also involved in Scripture production and distribution activities.
In Papua New Guinea, the Bible Society has undergone massive restructuring in the past few years, and needs additional trained staff to cope.
Making a difference
As we’ve travelled a little further along the road, Bible Societies in Australia and elsewhere would like our Pacific neighbours to benefit from what we’ve learned.
To this end, we ask you to partner with us as we meet training, resourcing, and infrastructure needs within BSSP, and invest in staff training in Papua New Guinea.
Changed lives
We’ve already seen the results of working together in the Pacific. “Kids Games” is a highly successful program that uses sports and other competitive activities to unite communities and share the Bible in a unique, creative way. Kids Games also provides the opportunity to freely distribute thousands of Scriptures to participating children and their families.
“Some of the children were so interested in the Bibles they received that they spent most of their time the following day just reading them!” said Bible Society’s Mission Officer, Seremaia Rareba, after a Kids Games. “Altogether, 30 children gave their lives to the Lord.”
