 Tim Tams in WA
Tim Tam facts! There are so many people in India, if each person was to be given a Tim Tam – you’d have to stack a packet of Tim Tams every 5 seconds for 168 years! That’s one of the weird and wonderful Tim Tam facts that kids at Wembley Downs Baptist church in Perth found out about when they teamed up with the Bible Society to raise money for Bibles in India.
They collected as many packets of Tim Tams as they could and held a special morning tea for their church. While the congregation gobbled up the Tim Tams, the kids raised nearly $200, so kids like them in India could have their own copy of the Bible. Well done kids!
Operation search and rescue One man’s remarkable mission, that has been underway over the last decade in the nation’s capital cities, has seen 150,000 Bibles given to the Australian public. He’s known as ‘Private Frank’ and he’s become a familiar sight in Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and now Perth. Frank Sladek comes from Adelaide and has ventured to Perth now 3 times.
He’s a pensioner and pays for the Scriptures himself out of a small amount of money he earns as a garden maintenance worker in his home city. Frank offers the Bibles to any who will take one without hawking or spruiking.
Who’s received a Bible from Frank? Young people incrisis, students, public servants, bus, tram and taxidrivers, police officers, migrants, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, drug addicts, beggars, prostitutes, ex-criminals,hibernating Christians, tourists, and people who arelooking for God.
Early in 2005, Bible Society WA awarded Frank the Ridden Award (named after former State Secretary and long time supporter Rev John Ridden) in recognition of his humble and tireless work for the Bible cause. Frank – you’re a legend!
