Face to Face

Face to Face
Chris tell us a little about your life and work before you joined Bible Society NSW.

I used to work at AMP Banking for 5 years in their operations department. I have been married for 8 years to Jacqui and we have our first child on the way next April. Outside work, I love watching and playing sport, more watching these days. I have attended St David’s Forestville, since I became a Christian when I was 17.Tell us what exactly is involved in your role of‘ Programmes manager’.

I am the one who chooses the projects that Bible Society NSW funds and in which we participate. After choosing the projects, I monitor them to ensure that funds are being spent wisely and according to how we’ve agreed to spend them. I know your role has taken you to the ‘coal-face’ of anumber of areas of the world where Bible Society isinvolved in specific projects - tell us of some of themost memorable.

Of the many, two stand out as especially memorable. The first is KidsGames in Fiji. We were able to give 2,000 Bibles to the kids of the South Pacific. I watched a 5-6 yearold walk to a seat by herself and just sit there and flickthrough the pages – totally engrossed.

The second is our recent trip to Kenya/Uganda for ourHIV/AIDS project. In one room in a Kenyan slum, we found a mother and her three children. As I walked in the room, the youngest child looked straight at me to say why am I so sick - can you help? I have never felt as helpless as I did that day. Yet the people that had been trained through our course were able to look after the family andshare the gospel.

In your own Christian life and in your job tell us what ‘keeps you keeping on’.

The hope that we I have in Jesus. In my own Christian life, it is the desire for people to know Jesus, especially family andsome very close friends who don’t know him yet. My wife and friends keep me keeping on. My non Christian cricket mates, who are some of the best blokes in the world don't know Jesus, they keep me keeping on, as I don't want to be in heaven without them. Finally, I have my first child on the way and that is one of the greatest spurs to keep on keeping on.
