A Bible in every home

Father Nichtarios has a simple goal for the city of Banjas, on the Syriancoast – ‘That there will be a Bible in every single home in our area.’ He’s launched an outreach project with several local congregations in which children and young people are being engaged with the Bible. In a nation where 10% of the population is Christian, Father Nichtarios says –‘Our objective isn’t just to get the young people to read the Bibles, but for them to live what they read. The young people are the future of our church.’

Women’s Bible

A new Bible especially for women has been launched in the Philippines. 4,000 women, including the nation’s President, Gloria Arroyo wereon hand for the launch of the Philippines Bible Society’s latest Scripture product. The new Bible contains carefully written articles on the relevance of God’s Word to current women’s issues. According to Nora Lucero, the General Secretary of the Philippines Bible Society – ‘Women’s issues are often buried in the pages of Scripture. The articles are like pointers that will direct the readers to passages speaking to women, forwomen, about women.’

A warm welcome

Late at night in the freezing cold, an old man appeared outside the Bible Society offices in Kiev, Ukraine. The only staff member still at work invited him inside. His request was simple – ‘I have come for a Bible in the Khulish language.’

Sadly there were none left, but to allay the old man’s disappointment the staff member made him a cup of tea. He left, buying the cheapest item on sale, a single postcard.

Since that night more than 50 acquaintances of the old man have come to the Bible Society to buy Bibles. He’d told them about the warm welcome and kindness extended to him.
