‘We have to do it tonight’
Marjorie Niyungeko, the Executive Secretary of the Bible Society in Burundi was a woman on a mission. She went to a recording studio in Kempton Park South Africa to record a Kirundi audio version of the Scripture portion, ‘Living in Hope:Help From the Scriptures for Coping with HIV/AIDS.’ After the Bible Society had encountered many difficulties getting the recording done, Marjorie Niyungeko arrived at the studio declaring – ‘We have to do it tonight!’. At the end of a long late night, the recording was completed and has now been distributed among HIV/AIDS patients and their carers in Burundi. It is also being used in Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.

BasisB The Bible Society in Germany has confronted one of today’s biggest challenges – how do we speak to young people whose lives are increasingly shaped by communication and information technologies? So it’s launched the gospel of Mark in ‘BasisB’, an innovative package of CD-ROM, printed text and a website. In addition to the Scriptures, BasisB explores issues such as loneliness, fear, worry and distress, pleasure, freedom and happiness. It targets 16-25 year olds, using media which young people regard as their own.
