1918 Bible Essay

A Bible Society supporter contacted us recently with a delightful historical snapshot of our work. In 1918 Mrs. Lois Shepherd’s mother, Mrs. Dora Zweck won the Bible Society’s essay competition. She sent in the essay her mother had written, as well as the original letter from the British and Foreign Bible Society NSW Auxiliary announcing her prize of – ‘a postal note value £2/-/- and under separate cover a neat pocket Bible’. It is a beautifully hand-written essay entitled ‘The Bible and its Mission.’ It concludes – ‘May the blessings of God ever rest on the Bible Society for the unfailing and faithful manner it has spread and broadcast the living seed of the Word of God among all the nations.’ Nearly 90 years on, that great mission continues!

Biscuit baking for Bibles

At Bible Society we are constantly thrilled by the inventiveness and faithfulness of our supporters young and old. Two of them are Julia and Carolyn Davey, aged 11 and 14. They had the idea of baking biscuits for their church, to raise money for Bible work around the world. They baked three types of biscuits - chocolate chip, Anzac biscuits and Yoyos. All up, they sold 41 packets of biscuits and raised $120 for Bible Society. The girls wrote to us saying – ‘We enjoyed doing it and the people loved the biscuits. We are very happy to know that the money raised will help people receive a Bible. This means they can read for themselves about God’s love for them and what Jesus did for them. And they can also share what they know of the Lord to others around them.’ What a delight they are – a big thank you to Julia and Carolyn!

Opening the eyes of our

At Bible Society NSW, our Mission Mail Order Centre at Macquarie Park provides an invaluable resource to the Christian community. Our primary focus is to sell Bibles, outreach materials and other resources in bulk to churches, schools, councils and other organisations at cost price. In addition to this we are able to provide Bibles for certain ministries such as in the prison system, at no charge. The Mail Order Centre is also the main distributor for many resources produced by Bible Society NSW including the 'Going To Work With God' Bible study series, and various resources for 'Jesus: All About Life' and the 'Narnia' movie. Catalogue items and other products can also be purchased through Chris Dare at the Mail Order Centre, by calling 1300 766 963, or faxing your order to 02 9889 4960, or email: orders@biblesocietynsw.com.au
