Around Australia

A grand vision
Our recent restructure of Bible Society NSW has seen the launch of a Fundraising Department, headed by Mark Lees. He has a grand vision for the next three years.
• Re-energise and recruit church representatives in every church all over NSW to better support and nurture our current loyal supporters.
• Run major events to openly proclaim Christ, and the work of His Society.
• Ensure the support of youth in the years ahead. The plan is to put a small ‘Megavoice’ audio player into the hands of every child who attends a Sunday school or Scripture class in NSW State Schools. It’s a solar powered machine with the entire New Testament stored on a tiny computer chip.
• Engage more with corporate Australia offering them participation in overseas Bible Society programmes.

Mark says – ‘each of these initiatives is truly fulfilling our mission statement of “…helping people to interact with the Word of God, at a price they can afford and in a format they can understand.” We have an exciting future ahead.’

Well done good and faithful servant
The Bible Society Western Australia is sad to report the death of William ‘Bill’ Mandry. Bill was with Bible Society for many years as our president of the Collie Action Group.
Bill was born in Collie and, from the age of 16 spent 44 years working in the mines. Bill loved his Saviour and wanted to serve him day and night in whatever he was doing. Bill taught us all about doing what we can where we are with what we have.
The team here at Bible Society WA extend our deepest sympathies to Mrs Mandry and the whole Mandry family. We also thank God for the opportunity to meet a man with such a passion for the Bible and those without the Bible. The Bible reading at Bill’s funeral was Matthew 5:3-16. Bill was certainly a shining light for his Lord in Collie and the whole south west region of WA.

On the move
For many years now, Bible Society WA has built up a comprehensive library. It has 1800 items, including Bibles in many different languages, books on translation, missiology and the history of the British and Foreign Bible Society. With BSWA’s move to new smaller premises in Belmont, we have reached an agreement with Trinity Theological College, to house the Bible Society WA library in their premises at 632 Newcastle St Leederville. The library catalogue can be viewed at www.ttc.wa.edu.au.
