 Hands of Hope
Sharing Jesus on the Thai-Burma border Bible Society NSW has launched a catchy new way of supporting a critical program, bringing reconciliation and healing for many thousands of Rwandan children whose communities remain devastated by the genocide of 1994. We're raising much needed funds for these kids by selling 'Hands for Hope' wristbands. They're just $6 each, the cost of teaching literacy to a Rwandan youngster for a year!
In just three months in 1994, an estimated 800,000 people were killed in the Rwandan massacre, leaving a nation and countless lives torn apart. Now, in partnership with African Enterprise, we're teaching literacy to more than 100,000 kids, using Bible stories as the text. 400 teachers will be trained to focus on the Old Testament story of Joseph and his brothers, as well as the Gospel theme of forgiveness. In turn, 800 young people will be identified and trained as student leaders. Across 80 schools, they'll be acting out the powerful messages of reconciliation with drama, song, dance, art and sports festivals. $6 is an amazingly small amount to have such an impact in this hugely needy nation. Why not buy some for family, friends, or your church?
