A Remarkable Lady
Rayma Gunning’s inspiring vision for her local community motivates her to distribute thousands of Scriptures in the Cronulla area.
“I want to see everyone interacting with the Bible,” says Rayma. “I’m passionate about speaking the Gospel - but it’s also vital to get the written Word into people’s hands.”
Cronulla’s Spring Festival attracts close to 30,000 people. Rayma sets up shop each September alongside over 100 market stallholders, but instead of selling her wares, Rayma gives them away! Relying on her limited resources and small donations from friends, Rayma gave away over $8,000 of Bible Society Scripture material at last year’s festival. She had people queuing for Bibles!
When Backpackers Bibles were promoted in a recent catalogue, her first thought was, ‘We’ve got a Backpacker’s Hostel in Cronulla!’
“Right away, I asked the owner, ‘If I got a carton of those, would you be willing to accept them?’ He agreed, and now there’s a pile of them sitting in the foyer. It’s exciting watching them disappear!”
Efforts like these have the potential to impact countless lives! Rayma has confidence in Scripture’s transforming power: “God has promised His Word won’t come back to him void.”
