Swaziland
Her Majesty, the Indlovukazi (Queen Mother) of Swaziland, has thanked the Bible Society
movement for its work to combat the spread of HIV and AIDS in her country through the Good Samaritan program which is a Bible based HIV and Aids education program currently running in 20 African countries.
Egypt
More than 1,000 people attended a meeting in a Coptic Orthodox cathedral in a city in Upper Egypt - the first time Christians from all traditions had ever got together in one place there and the first time Catholics and Protestants had ever spoken from this pulpit! This is just one example of how God is using the Bible Society of Egypt and its anniversary celebrations to unite Egyptian Christians around his Word.
Hungary
In a ceremony which attracted a great deal of media attention, 150 Members of Hungary’s Parliament were presented with Bibles by Church leaders of different denominations. The distribution, which took place on June 9 -- the last day of the Hungarian Parliament’s spring session -- was organised by the Hungarian Bible Society as part of its Year of the Bible campaign.
Brazil
More than 60 million Bibles distributed! This is an achievement of which the Bible Society of Brazil can justifiably feel proud as it celebrates its 60th anniversary with a special Year of the Bible. Yet distributing the Bible is only one part of the story. The other is deepening people’s relationship with God’s Word. “The Year of the Bible has come at the right time to make the Bible known not only for its cover, but also for its contents,” says Adail Carvalho Sándoval, the Society’s Vice-President. “The Bible must not be known just for its sales figures.”
Hong Kong
How does the Bible change people’s lives? Students from primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong recently used drama to present their perspectives on this subject. One student declared afterwards that this message had touched her heart and prompted her to reflect on her attitude towards her parents and family.
