Jesus Racing in High Schools
Bible Society Youth have been partnering with the Jesus Racing Team throughout 2008. Over 7,000 students in 25 schools have been visited, with around 5,000 copies of Luke’s Gospel distributed along with stacks of Jesus Racing posters, tattoos and wristbands. The school visits seek to challenge the students to re-consider who Jesus is and what effect that should have on how they live their lives.
Facts and figures tell only part of the story. The following conversation, which was overheard between two girls at one of the schools, gives a true picture of the impact that these visits are having on the lives of the students.…
“Can you take this home?”
“Why?”
“Because if I take it home and Dad finds it, he will throw it in the bin. But if you take it home, I can come over to your house every morning before school and we can read it together.”
“OK”
What where they talking about? - it was the V8 Ute special edition of Luke’s Gospel that they had just received. They where going to read the Gospel together, so they could learn more about Jesus.
