A Mission field on our Doorstep
These days most school
children have never been to Sunday school or a church, let alone owned
a Bible. It’s a mission field on our doorstep, with ‘state religious
education’ opening up a significant way to connect students with the
good news of Jesus.
Bible Society is helping SRE teachers by offering to come and run
school assembly presentations this Christmas. We trialled the idea at
Easter in 12 schools with 3,500 students and there was a very positive
response. Over the last three years Bible Society has donated 12,000
copies of the Scriptures for teachers to use in classes.
Here’s a compelling account of how important this work is from a parent
on the NSW Central Coast – ‘I was a single Mum who’d been a backslider
and was miserable. I tucked my son in for the night and as I turned to
leave he said – “May the Lord go with you Mum”. I stopped dead in my
tracks and said – ‘Where did you hear that?’ He answered – “From my
Scripture teacher.” “This turned my life around and back to God”.
