Kenya: Transforming Hearts with God's Word
Bible Society continues to have amazing access to Public Schools getting young people excited about the Bible and helping them engage with God’s life giving words. Through the free distribution of Bibles and Memory Verse Calendars, fun multimedia presentations and visits by the Jesus Ute thousands of Aussie kid’s are being given the opportunity to have a personal encounter with God’s Word.
Violence following Kenya’s contested 2007 elections left over 300,000 people displaced, houses and businesses destroyed, land confiscated and approximately 1,000 people dead.
Ethnic tensions remain, with Kenya’s youth the most profoundly affected. Reports indicate children are now conscious of their ethnicity and hostile towards each other. Those traumatised by a death in the family lack energy and motivation to study.
Kenya now faces the complex challenge of healing a divided nation. But Bible Society and African Enterprise (AE) recognize that trust and understanding can only be restored through the grace of God, for reconciliation is rooted in the work of Christ on the cross.
Bible Society in partnership with AE has established a literacy project providing reconciliation education founded on God’s Word.
In it’s first year, the project will reach 20,000 students in 18 Nairobi schools through classroom teaching sessions, ‘Reconciliation Clubs’, peer leadership training, and debating and drama competitions.
90 teachers, 150 pastors and 350 parents will also participate in 5-day Biblical reconciliation training workshops.
Our vision is to see hatred transformed by love, better knowledge of God’s Word, and improved reading, writing and comprehension abilities among Kenya’s most disadvantaged.
You can help make this vision a reality. Please send us your tax deductible donation with the coupon on the back page of the magazine, phone our donor line 1300 552 537, or donate on line using your credit card at www.biblesocietynsw.com.au.
