Iraq has rarely been out of the headlines for the past few years. A country with about the same population as Australia, it has been torn apart by war and its future remains uncertain and insecure. However a new Iraq is emerging and while there is still much misery, the nation is changing dramatically. Iraqis are not alone in the midst of their turmoil. In the midst of the conflict, Bible Society has been busy distributing bulk deliveries of Arabic New
Testaments, to give them hope and security not only for each day, but for eternity. Now, in conjunction with other Christian groups, 100,000 New Testaments will be distributed free of charge to high schools, colleges and university students right through Iraq. Its a deliberate move to engage with this troubled nations next generation and our great prayer is that the Bibles message of hope and freedom will transform many lives.
Bible Society will pay for the distribution of 68,000 of these Scriptures at an overall cost of $100,000. That means each copy is priced at an incredible $1.47. We regard it as a privilege and responsibility to be able to offer Gods Word to Iraq so freely. Two teams have been distributing Bibles as part of the Year of the Bible campaign. One team is associated with the Evangelical church the other the Chaldean. They have been making home trips with a Box of Blessing, which includes household and food items and a New Testament.
They have also conducted school and university visits, providing stationery, reading materials, the Jesus film on CD or video, plus Bibles.
