Egypt: Literacy

AUTUMN APPEAL 2011

Egypt: Literacy

The director of the Bible Society of Egypt recently emailed with news I want to share with you because it reminds us how the knowledge of God’s Word sustains people daily facing the terror of persecution and conflict.

Egypt is primarily Muslim. Christians there are under severe threat, as recent attacks and fatal bombings highlight. Many Egyptians have not heard the Gospel. The fact half can’t read is shutting the door to the words they urgently need for life, strength and hope.

With your help, the Bible Society can continue to build our literacy program in Egypt. This aims to equip 17,400 people with basic skills – up to 80% of whom are children – to read fluently using the Bible as a textbook. Application is encouraged along with pure literacy. Spiritual nourishment for students is matched by the practical life benefits of being a confident reader in a place where poverty is rife, education is hard to access, and many struggle to provide the basics of food and accommodation for their family.

There is nothing like seeing God’s Word change one person, then refresh and transform whole families.

Please help us equip Egyptian people with the Scriptures that will feed their souls and bodies, through a donation and prayer for this life-giving program. Your generosity will bear fruit – not only now but for all eternity.

Yours in Christ,

Daniel Willis
