Literacy Project - India

INDIA: Literacy

The need
A third of India’s children live in urban slums – struggling for survival in desperate poverty. When disadvantaged children like these gain basic English literacy skills, they do better at school, and even those who don't go to school gain more employment opportunities.

Making a difference
Your support enables us to open a new world of opportunity for needy children living in the slums and villages of Andhra Pradesh.

REAP (Relief, Education, Evangelism and Aid program) International provides English language education to disadvantaged children, offering them a better future and teaching them using the power of God’s Word. We provide a Bible for each child who completes the program.

The project continues to expand and now operates from 140 centres. Nearly 13,000 children have been educated through the program so far, and in the process, hearts and minds are being transformed by the Gospel.

“Children coming to this centre are able to learn new English words and stories about Jesus. Through the children by the grace of our God, their parents are also coming to church.”
- Sujatha, teacher at Lopudi Literacy Centre

Reaching the goal
• Teach 6,000 children in 140 literacy centres how to read and write using Scripture
• Give a Bible to each child graduating from the program
